How to Calculate Ratios for Raw Dog Food Recipes
While dogs don't really need variety for taste, mix up your dietduring the week can help provide nutritional benefits. These recipes use percentages for amounts, so all you have to do is figure out what's yours. The daily amount of food for a dog is calculated by weightand use these percentages to determine the number of ounces.
- For example, a 50-pound dog will need one and a half pounds of food per day, or three-quarters of a pound per meal (assuming the dog eats twice a day).
- A 5:1:1 ratio would be 50% meat on the bone, or 12 ounces, and 10% bone and 10% organs, or about 1.5 ounces of each.
- If you want to prepare and freeze a large batch at once, simply multiply the daily amount of food by weight to arrive at your recipe's ingredient measurements and divide servings by weight before wrapping and freezing.
